Anyways, todays post..
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain: Text of the Poem
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading–treading–till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through–And when they all were seated,A Service, like a Drum–
Kept beating–beating–till I thoughtMy Mind was going numb–
And then I heard them lift a BoxAnd creak across my SoulWith those same Boots of Lead, again,Then Space
began to toll,As all the Heavens were a Bell,And Being, but an Ear,And I, and Silence, some strange RaceWrecked, solitary, here–And then a Plank in Reason, broke,And I dropped down, and down–And hit a World, at every plunge,And Finished knowing–then–
I suppose i like this poem because it's title drew me in because, i don't know im usually drawn to death-esque things, i don't know why.i can't exactly write a whole paragraph on it. I'm not really a big fan of poems, i find that people usually try way to hard, to sound deep and intellectual and end up looking over dramatic and bit like a joke.
"Death-esque"--love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the poem you chose, too. The rhythm of it really captures the plodding, dismal tone.
Nice promo for your friend, Lauren.
